Shell & Doug - Happy
[info]shell_and_doug
So, we headed down to Orlando Friday morning. We left at 6:30am and it took almost a solid 9 hours to get there between the downpour rain the entire way and having to stop and pee every 40 feet (at least it felt like it). Once we got down there, Doug hooked up for work and my mom and went to do some minor shopping. All the maternity places around here don't have any fall items in yet, but they do there. Go figure. It's 40 degrees here and no one is selling long sleeved maternity clothing that isn't $60/piece, but in Orlando where it's 80 degrees you can find it! We also stopped by Hallmark to pick up thank you cards (they are adorable!) and then ventured over to Crispers for some dinner. Oh how I miss Crispers; I forgot how delicious their food is!

Doug got someone to take his shift after 8, so once he was off we played Wii with Reeka until 11 or 11:30 with a brief break when my mom and sister stopped by to drop off the car. I was very intrigued by the Wii Fit and wanted to do all the balance stuff, but balanced and pregnancy don't really go well together. It was fun to watch Doug try to master the breathing exercises though!

We crashed somewhere between 11:30 and midnight. Saturday morning we were meeting Mel for brunch, so we got ready, packed up and headed out taking the typical route to Winter Park... Somehow we hit the end of a parade and were suddenly following about 15 cops on horses at a snails pace who were followed by a girl on a bike in a black and white jumpsuit with "Lake County Jail" across the back and another lady who was in charge of horse poo. We were very confused and ended up being detoured around, but the detour didn't have signs and a cop came up to my window wanting to know where I was going because the idiots didn't have signs up, lanes blocked or directed traffic. So, I was going back to where I needed to be. Apparently that wasn't allowed. *rolls eyes*

Once we finally made it to the restaurant, we were told they didn't serve brunch. Keep in mind I picked this place specifically because they served brunch. *rolls eyes again* At least the food made up for it, after 30 minutes of convincing myself it was okay I couldn't get crabcakes and eggs. So sad. But the food was really delicious, and Doug had what's been named the best bloody mary in central Florida, and he seemed to rather enjoy it. But still, I wanted brunch. Afterwards, we went to the farmer's market and each picked up an apple. Doug managed to finish his before we got back to the car (and didn't wash it, which grossed me out). We got gas, stopped at Starbucks for an iced coffee (it was hoooot), and then headed up for the shower.

The shower was wonderful (as seen in the pictures previously posted). Things were hectic prior to 3 trying to set up and everything, but neither of us minded assisting and luckily everyone was late anyways, so there was time. :) The faux martinis were yummy, the food was good, the games were fun, the boas were a riot, and the gifts were awesome. I think everyone pretty much managed to enjoy themselves. The best part was my brother, Leon, wearing all the boas. :)

After the shower, Doug and I had a little date and went to play mini golf at Disney's Fantasia Mini Golf. I hate Disney. The world knows that by this point, but I absolutely adore the Fantasia Mini Golf. It's the one redeeming quality Disney has. It is by far my favorite course I've ever been on, and it's just a blast. :) Doug hadn't been, even after WORKING at Disney, and he enjoyed it as well. We had a good time spending time together and goofing off and playing a pretty good game. I ended up being 1 under par (which is probably the worst I've done there!) and he was 6 under (yay Doug!). The bonus - they gave us golf balls to take home that had Stitch on them! :)

Doug out front with Mickey. Can you tell he was in the Navy? He stands like it.

Me out front with Mickey.

Doug messing around with the clubs.

Scary devil man who shows up when the lights go out on one of the holes. Doug squealed. LOL.

Contemplating eating the club. It looks tasty right?

The scorecard!

We went back to the house and crashed. Nothing exciting to note thereafter. Sunday morning we got up, made breakfast (waffles, eggs and fruit - Yum!), and headed to the beach. Somehow we were out the door by 9:15 or 9:30! Tasha, my sister, had just waken up, so they were about an hour behind us, which gave us time to walk around and check things out (most importantly, find a bathroom!). We walked around a bit, bought Tasha some boiled peanuts (Doug had never had them! and didn't like them...), and spent some time talking and laughing until they got there. Tasha ended up freezing... not sure how it was about 80 degrees or so, but it definitely was windy. The water was too cold to go in, but it was still fun. Tasha and I got to spend some time talking and laughing, and she got to feel Maddie move. Robert, her boyfriend, was a master seashell hunter and found lots of awesome, and large, shells. I told him I was going to contract him out for hire. Professional seashell finder available. :) We went to New Smyrna Beach, which is where Natasha, Leon and I always went with our parents and we NEVER found shells that big!! It was awesome.

It's too bright! I can't see you!

This is what I look like with no make-up and my hair just going whereever the wind wants it to go. :P

Tasha curled up in the trenchcoat she made Robert get out of her car.

Mmmmm beach!

I have spots on my lens... I need to get it cleaned. =/

Beach feet!

Doug coming back from his bathroom trip.

Me and Tasha.

Ohhh, you were taking a picture!

Doug's beach shadow.

My pregnant beach shadow.

Doug decided to bury himself which made Tasha taller than him! She's 5'2" and he's 5'9" so it was a nice and deep hole. :)

Then he decided he wanted to be a bird in the wind. I wanted to knock him over but refrained.

One of the seashells Robert found for us!

Afterwards, we went over to this awesomely wonderful seafood restaurant right off of the beach and had lunch. Doug and I had previously decided seafood was an absolute must for the trip since no place around has any fresh and worth ordering. I got an appetizer of fried oysters (YUM!) and Doug got calamari. Tasha actually tried both! She nor Robert had ever had calamari, so they both tried that. Tasha doesn't eat seafood, but she actually tried the appetizers and Robert's mahi mahi. I ordered broiled scallops for my dish. Doug got flounder, Robert the mahi and Tasha ordered a big thing of popcorn shrimp (the only seafood she eats - just like my mom). Robert and Tash had to head back so she could get to work, so Doug and I stuck around and had a slice of DELICIOUS key lime pie. I wish I had pictures of the food...

We headed back, very reluctantly, cleaned up and went over to see the parents of some close friends. We didn't get to stay long, but we got to chat and catch up (and more baby gifts!), which was nice. I miss them like crazy. They're so super sweet, and their mom is like a second mom to me. :) After that we headed to Kohls to grab a couple more shirts my mom had seen earlier that day, and then we went on a search for some pumpkins so we could do some pumpkin carving with Clarissa (my best friend), Julie and their boys. That was easier said than done. SuperTarget didn't have carving pumpkins but had these super small pumpkins with crazy painted faces and feather hair, so I bought one of those for work. I need to take a picture of him; he's awesome. Publix had pumpkins but not many, and by the time we got out of there, Riss was telling me that the boys needed to head to bed, which was really, really sad since I don't think I've seen her son since January, or maybe even last November. :( But, obviously, the kids come first. It was just one of those days where there just weren't enough hours! But we got back to the house, turned on the Travel channel and watched some show about haunted tours across the U.S., cooked a pizza and got ready for carving.

Our pumpkins.... before they are gruesomely attacked.

Pattern #1.

Pattern #2. Taken from a jack-o-lantern face pattern. We just used the mouth since the pumpkin was so small.

He did not care for the pumpkin guts.

In progress!

In progress - lots of dots to cut around!

Doug's first pumpkin!! :D He did such a good job!

My pain-in-the-butt-took-way-too-long-to-do pumpkin, but it definitely is adorable.

Ethan and Dean's pumpkins. Super cute - I love the potato head plug idea.

And for good measure, this is Tessa, Clarissa's new kitten. She's adorable and was intrigued by this whole pumpkin thing.

Monday morning we left at 6:30 again and got home around 3. My 7 1/2 or 8 hour trips are definitely behind me. Next time I'll have a baby I'll have to stop and feed and change and all that... now I know why it always took us FOREVER to drive up here as kids. =/ Oh well. They were efficient and fun while they lasted! All in all it was a fantastic trip and a sort of mini-vacation. And it was a really good break for Doug and I to reconnect and bond. Things have been so hectic lately, we really needed a break! :) I came back feeling very refreshed... even if we did come back to cat poo in the sink. LOL At least I didn't have to clean it up... pregnancy can come in handy sometimes. :P
